Canvention 37

The privilege of hosting the Aurora Awards and the Canvention has returned to Hal-Con after a long absence in Eastern Canada. The last time the Prix Aurora Awards were hosted in Nova Scotia was in 1993 at Wolfcon, and their last time in Atlantic Canada was 1999 in Fredericton at inCONsequential.

Canvention is the Canadian national science fiction convention, where the Prix Aurora Awards are presented. Normally it is held as part of an existing convention. This includes an AGM for members of the CSFFA (Canadian Science Fiction Fantasy Association), the governing body for the Aurora Awards.

Hal-Con will host a few events over the weekend and we encourage participation.

This includes a private pin ceremony for all attending nominees, followed by an event public social event on Friday, September 22, the Prix Aurora Awards open to the public on Saturday evening, September 23, and an AGM on Sunday, September 24. More details will be announced as they are confirmed.

INFORMATION FOR NOMINEES

Congratulations! We hope you join us in Halifax. If you are travelling, please check our travel section for information which may be helpful.

Hal-Con is changing things up from the standard format. We won’t be hosting a banquet at the expense of the nominees, instead, we’re hosting you! You’ll realize pretty quickly we’re quite different from the recent host canventions, but we hope you’ll enjoy a change. Hal-Con is a multi-media con with close to 8,000 ticket holders and nearly 9,000 participants over 3 days. It’s the largest event in Atlantic and we’re excited to host you.

Please note, all Aurora-related activities are free. However, due to the size of the host event, Aurora events are held in satellite locations near the host convention. If you would like to register to attend Hal-Con as an attendee, please visit our ticket page.
