The Great Hal-Con Geek Quest
We’ll be meeting up at Granville Mall (the cobblestoned area around Boston Pizza and The Split Crow) for registration between 12-1 with the Quest starting at 1pm sharp! Please remember, the event goes on rain or shine and currently it’s calling for more rain than shine, so dress accordingly. We aren’t going to let a little rain keep us down – there’s too much fun to be had! We’ve got some amazing prizes for the event!

On Saturday, June 24th, Hal-Con Sci-Fi Fantasy Association will be hosting its second annual scavenger hunt. Called The Great Hal-Con Geek Quest, the event, which benefits The IWK and Kids Help Phone, will take teams all over downtown Halifax where they will participate in a series of quests that will test their knowledge of Hal-Con, of Halifax, and in some cases will even test their senses of humour!
Teams will compete with each other to score the most points in a limited period of time. All quests will require photo and video evidence to document their completion with many of them being shared to social media. Teams are encouraged to use their wits to come up with the best image – creativity and ingenuity will earn extra points!
SIGN UP & EVENT DATES
Participants must be 19+ of age or older.
May 15th (REGISTRATION OPENING) – June 22nd (or 50 teams registered) (REGISTRATION CLOSING)
24 June- 12PM – 1PM (CHECK IN), 1PM – 4PM (SCAVENGER HUNT), 4PM – 5PM (JUDGING & PRIZES)
PLEASE NOTE: The Great Hal-Con Geek Quest will go on rain or shine. No refunds will be issued unless the event is cancelled.
• The Great Hal-Con Geek Quest must be completed without the use of a vehicle.
• Quests can be completed in any order.
• All photos or videos must include all team members with exception of one.
• The sign provided must be included in all photos and videos.
• All individuals must sign a waiver (The Great Hal-Con Geek Quest Waiver) in order to be able to compete. The waiver must be passed in at the check in booth. Copies will be available for signing on location.
Each completed quest is worth five points. Bonus points are awarded on a case by case basis. If a quest is identified as having the possibility of bonuses, the maximum available will be five points. The judge’s’ word is final. Creativity and ingenuity go a long way! The team who has the highest score wins first place, second highest second. In case of a tie there will be a “selfie off” and the winners will be determined by the judges.
The Team Spirit Award will be determined by the judges based on team uniform/costuming, team spirit, participation, creativity, ingenuity and being a general good sport.
Prizes will be awarded to the top two scoring groups, and there will also be a prize for the team displaying the best team spirit. In addition, if twenty teams are registered, each participant will be entered in a draw for two weekend passes to Hal-Con 2017 and if thirty teams are registered there will be be an additional draw for a pair of Warp Speed Passes to the event.

The registration fee is $25 per team of three to five players and each team member must be nineteen years of age or older. The registration form is available here.
