Board Room Game Cafe
The Board Room Game Cafe originated when owner Kris Moulton moved home to Halifax after living in Vancouver and Toronto for the better part of a decade. He had discovered and embraced the board gaming hobby in that time and wanted to turn his passion into a career. He experienced the board game cafe model prospering in Toronto and wanted to bring that idea and excitement to Halifax. 4 years, a second location in Bedford and 1 (soon to be 2) kids later and the Board Room has become more than he ever imagined it would be.
Kris met Jon-Paul Decosse at Toronto’s Snakes & Lattes in 2013, and offered him the position of General Manager for this new endeavour. He was able to bring his experience in managing a game cafe and his love of games to become an integral part of what the Board Room is now. A classically trained opera singer, JP manages to find time for a growing family, singing engagements and keeping the Board Room running smoothly as Operations Manager for both locations.
John Gallant, a dedicated organizer in the Halifax game community, was a logical choice for a game expert and Retail Manager. Kris brought him on board from day one and John has flourished in that role, becoming essential to growing our game library and retail selection. Assisting with a long list of things behind the scenes, John is both an asset to The Board Room and to the Halifax game community at large.
Kris, JP and John are honoured to be called local heroes and are overjoyed that the community has embraced the cafes the way they have. We love board games and want to share that with as many people as possible. Thanks to the Hal-Con team for the nomination and congratulations to all the other local heroes that make Nova Scotia so great!
