Hal-Con is taking gaming to a whole new level in 2012. This year, we will ruling the roost on the third floor of the World Trade and Convention Centre, increasing our floor space to 8,500 square feet.
By leveling up, we will be providing you with even more dedicated gaming space. This means more gaming tournaments, demonstrations, RPGs and opportunities for you to game your brains out. We even have our own dedicated space to hold an assortment of exciting workshops and round-table discussions.
The Hal-Con Game Library returns this year, giving you the opportunity to sign out new games or old favourites to play with a group of friends or to try out with new people.
Special thanks goes out to Gold Sponsors Quantum Frontier Games & Comics and Eastlink for sponsoring our Games Rooms!
Quantum Games Room
RPGs
Most roleplaying game sessions will last three to four hours and will seat four to six players. Players can sign up in advance at the Gaming Information Desk in the Quantum Games Room. Players will only be able to sign up for the current day’s events.
We currently anticipate the following games will be played over the course of the weekend:
D&D – 4th Edition, 3.5 and Pathfinder
Exalted
World of Darkness
GURPS
Board and Card Games
It’s going to be another big year for cardboard in 2012. The Big Bang Theory and recently the web series TableTop highlight just how much fun you can have destroying your friend’s army with a rampaging dragon, or negotiating the trade of your lumber for a precious sheep.
Once again, we’ll have tournaments, demonstrations and teaching sessions running non-stop during Hal-Con. If you’re still somewhat new to gaming, we’d recommend stopping in and giving some of these a try:
Dominion
Settlers of Catan
Small World
Munchkin
Axis & Allies
Agricola
Ticket To Ride
Arkham Horror
Castle Ravenloft / Wrath of Ashardalon
Tournaments:

Great Canadian Board Game Blitz
About the Great Canadian Board Game Blitz:
Each round, players select which games from a predetermined list games they’d like to play in some order (randomly at first, and then by accumulated points).
Everyone then plays their selected games simultaneously and earns a number of points based on the rank they achieved in the game. After a certain number of rounds, the player with the most tournament points is the winner. The top-ranked player wins a weekend pass to FanExpo 2013 to compete in the CGBGB Finals.
This is a competitive but friendly event open to newcomers; games are explained if need be. Games are often shorter Euro-style games like, e.g., Puerto Rico, Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan, San Juan, Roll through the Ages,Saint Petersburg, Dominion, Power Grid, Tigris and Euphrates, etc. You can find out more by visiting their website:www.gcbgb.ca
