Cat Rector is a Nova Scotian author who writes queer dark fantasy and horror books. While she does shoot for a nice balance of humour and hope within all those darker moments, Cat often tells prospective readers that her books pair well with tissues and comfort food. Her first series, The Unwritten Runes, is a 2.5 book Norse mythology series featuring Sigyn, Loki’s wife, and is great for readers who enjoy retellings like Circe and The Witch’s Heart. The standalone novel This Too Shall Burn is a bite-sized novel featuring a witch with a complicated relationship with the local Puritan-inspired town, and the young woman who is suffering with health complications. And the newest novel Coal Gets In Your Veins features a 35-year-old woman in an ex-coal mining town dealing with generational trauma, the grieving vampire up the hill, and the horror that lives in the town’s blood.
